How our editing prices work
Priced per word, with no hidden fees
You pay for the number of words in your manuscript, at the rate for the service and turnaround you choose. The quote you see here is the price you pay at checkout. The minimum order is $25.
Proofreading corrects spelling, grammar, punctuation and consistency, for papers that are already well written. Academic Copyediting also improves sentence structure, clarity, flow and academic tone, and is the right choice for most authors writing in a second language. Deep Copyediting adds journal-specific formatting, reference-style correction and figure and table captions.
Turnaround
Standard delivery is within 7 days. Express delivery (24–72 hours) costs 9¢ a word for proofreading, 12¢ for Academic Copyediting and 15¢ for Deep Copyediting.
Editing a thesis or dissertation?
Theses and dissertations of 15,000 words or more have lower rates: 3¢ a word for proofreading, 4¢ for copyediting and 5¢ for deep copyediting with university formatting, delivered within 14 days. Choose a thesis service above, or see Thesis & Dissertation Editing.
What you get back
Every order comes back as a tracked-changes file, so you can see, accept or reject each edit, with comments wherever the editor needs to check your meaning. Academic Copyediting and Deep Copyediting orders also include a Certificate of English Editing for journals that ask for proof of language editing. Your editor is matched to your field, so technical terms stay correct.
Which words count?
Count the words you want edited. Most authors include the main text, abstract, figure and table captions; you can leave out the reference list if you don’t need it edited. Your word processor’s word count is accurate enough for a quote.

How much does academic editing cost?
For standard 7-day delivery, Proofreading is 5¢ a word, Academic Copyediting 7¢ and Deep Copyediting 9¢. Express delivery costs 9¢, 12¢ and 15¢ respectively. A 6,000-word article costs $300 for standard proofreading or $420 for standard copyediting.
Is there a minimum order?
Yes, $25.
Do I pay for the reference list?
Only if you want it edited. Leave the reference list out of your word count if it doesn’t need editing.
Which currencies and payment methods do you accept?
Prices are in US dollars. You can pay by card through Stripe or through Paystack.
