1. What We Collect

Account information: name, email address, and password (stored as a salted hash, never in plain text) when you register.

Manuscript content: the files you upload for editing, along with metadata you provide (title, word count, field, target journal).

Order and payment information: order history, service tier, and payment status. Card and bank details are handled entirely by our payment processors (Stripe and Paystack) — we never see or store your full card number or bank credentials.

Editor application information: for editor applicants, we collect credentials, subject expertise, a CV, and payout method details (e.g., bank or PayPal information for withdrawals).

Free tool usage: text you paste into our free diagnostic tools is processed to generate your result and is not stored beyond what's needed to show you that result. If you submit your email to unlock a full result, we store that email as a lead record.

Site analytics: we log page visits (page path, a hashed version of your IP address, referring site, and browser user agent) to understand site traffic. We do not store your raw IP address — only a one-way hash of it.

2. How We Use It

To deliver the editing service you ordered, including matching you with a subject-matter editor.
To communicate with you about your order (status updates, editor messages, delivery).
To process payments and, for editors, to calculate and pay out earnings.
To improve our free tools and site content.
To send you marketing communications you can opt out of at any time.

3. Manuscript Confidentiality

Your unpublished research is sensitive. We do not use your manuscript content to train any AI model — Sage Editors's editing is human-only, full stop. Access to your manuscript is limited to the editor assigned to your order and platform administrators for support purposes.

4. Third Parties We Share Data With

Payment processing: Stripe and Paystack.
Editor verification: we share editor applicant information with our academic verification partner, academicsverified.com, solely to confirm academic credentials before approval.
Reference verification: DOIs you submit to our Reference Verifier and Citation Builder tools are sent to CrossRef's public API to resolve citation metadata.

We do not sell your personal data.

5. Your Rights

You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and associated data (subject to what we're required to retain for financial/legal record-keeping). Contact us at support@sageeditors.com to exercise these rights.

6. Data Retention

We retain order and manuscript data for as long as your account is active, plus a reasonable period afterward for support and financial record-keeping. You may request earlier deletion subject to legal retention requirements.

7. Changes to This Policy

We'll post updates to this page and update the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will also be communicated by email where practical.
